How can I give a gift only to first-time customers?
In this article, you’ll learn how to automatically reward first-time customers with a free gift by combining a gift offer with Shopify Flow.
Customer Tag rule
- Go to your offer's settings and add the "Customer tags" rule.

- Next, enter a tag that will match the same tag to the one in Shopify Flow. For example, "First order" and click the "+" icon to add the tag.

- Lastly, click "Includes" and select "Excludes".

Shopify Flow
- Go to Shopify Flow, click "Create workflow" and "Select a trigger".


- Search for "Customer joined segment" and select the trigger.

- Next, select the "Customers who have purchased at least once" segment.

- Hover your cursor over the first trigger and click the "+" icon. Then, select "Action".


- Search for "Customer tag" action and enter "First order" or the tag name you initially specified in the gift offer.

- Lastly, click the "+" icon to add the tag name to the action.

And that's it! With this setup, customers receive the gift only with their first purchase.
