# How can I give a gift only to first-time customers?

### In this article, you’ll learn how to automatically reward first-time customers with a free gift by combining a gift offer with Shopify Flow.

# Customer Tag rule

1. Go to your offer's settings and add the "**Customer tags**" rule.

2. Next, enter a tag that will match the same tag to the one in Shopify Flow. For example, "First order" and click the "**+**" icon to add the tag.

3. Lastly, click "Includes" and select "**Excludes**".

# Shopify Flow

1. Go to Shopify Flow, click "Create workflow" and "**Select a trigger**".

2. Search for "**Customer joined segment**" and select the trigger.

3. Next, select the "**Customers who have purchased at least once**" segment.

4. Hover your cursor over the first trigger and click the "**+**" icon. Then, select "**Action**".

5. Search for "**Customer tag**" action and enter "**First order**" or the tag name you initially specified in the gift offer.

6. Lastly, click the "**+**" icon to add the tag name to the action.

And that's it! :)  With this setup, customers receive the gift only with their first purchase.

|| **How it works:** Returning customers are automatically tagged by Shopify Flow, allowing our app to exclude them from receiving the gift more than once.
