Monetary Value Rule Considerations


This article explains how the Monetary Value rule works and presents an alternative approach to the mentioned considerations.


  • Below is an example of a gift offer where the Monetary Value rule has a minimum spend set to $100 (see screenshots).

As shown in the screenshot below, the free gift is automatically added to cart when a $150 product is added, since it exceeds the $100 minimum spend.


However, when a 50% off discount is added, that brings the price down to $75. This amount is less than the minimum spend of the gift offer, but the gift product still remains in cart.


This happens because the app considers the original price (before discounts) rather than the discounted price when a discount code is applied.


An alternative is to use Shopify’s Compare-at Price and Price options instead of discount codes. This ensures our app reads the discounted price and doesn’t add the gift when the minimum spend isn’t reached, as illustrated in the screenshots below.
