Create a Gift

Click the 'Create a Gift offer' button.

Select gift offer exposure

Reward behavior

Decide how the gift offer works:

Automatically add products to cart – The gift is automatically added to cart when the required item is added.
Give customers a choice of products to add – Let the customer select their gift from a list of products.

# Monetary Value Rule Considerations

This article explains how the Monetary Value rule works and presents an alternative approach to the mentioned considerations.

Below is an example of a gift offer where the Monetary Value rule has a minimum spend set to $100 (see screenshots). As shown in the screenshot below, the free gift is automatically added to cart when a $150 product is added, since it exceeds the $100 minimum spend.

However, when a 50% off discount is added, that brings the price down to $75. This amount is less than the minimum spend of the gift offer, but the gift product still remains in cart.

This happens because the app considers the original price (before discounts) rather than the discounted price when a discount code is applied.

An alternative is to use Shopify’s Compare-at Price and Price options instead of discount codes. This ensures our app reads the discounted price and doesn’t add the gift when the minimum spend isn’t reached, as illustrated in the screenshots below.

I don't want to show the gift to appear on my store. How do I hide it from my customers?

### Here are some ways to hide the gift product from customers on your store.

It's important to note, that our app mainly focuses on the reward items which are visible on online store and can be purchased.

However, there are a few ways to approach hiding gift item from store, but the steps may take some time to set up, and could also involve coding.

This being said, it depends whether or not you're willing and able to implement the solutions suggested by Shopify Experts.

### In this article, you’ll learn how to automatically reward first-time customers with a free gift by combining a gift offer with Shopify Flow.

Customer Tag rule

Go to your offer's settings and add the "Customer tags" rule.

Next, enter a tag that will match the same tag to the one in Shopify Flow. For example, "First order" and click the "+" icon to add the tag.

Lastly, click "Includes" and select "Excludes".

Shopify Flow

Go to Shopify Flow, click "Create workflow" and "Select a trigger".

Search for "Customer joined segment" and select the trigger.

Next, select the "Customers who have purchased at least once" segment.

Hover your cursor over the first trigger and click the "+" icon. Then, select "Action".

How to test an offer before publishing it to the live store

### Here are two ways to make sure your offer works before activating it on the live store.

Duplicate & Test on a Draft Theme

Go to your Online Store from Shopify's Sales channels settings:

Click the 3 dots icon next to the Customize button of your live theme,
Click Duplicate.

Next, activate the app embed settings on the duplicated theme:

Click Online Store,
Select Themes,
And click Customize on your current live theme.

From the theme editor page, click the third icon called App embeds.
Activate Koala Gifts.

||| Note: Make sure to disable the embed settings from our app on the live store. ||| This way, the offer will be displayed on the duplicated theme only.

||| Also, make sure to keep your offer active. ||| In case it is disabled and set to draft, go to "Offers" > click "Actions" > "Activate".

Can I change the position of the gift widget?

### How can I change the position of the gift widget?

Changing the position of the free gift widget is very simple. If you'd like to display the free gift in a different place on your product page, please try the steps below:

Go to Online Store.
Click Customize on your main theme.

Click Home Page to make a dropdown of pages to appear. Afterwards, click Products > Default Product.

You can also simply click on any product, just as if you would click on your live store to go to the actual product page.

Once you're on the product page template hover between two blocks to have a blue line with a "+" icon appear and click it.
Click Apps > add Koala Page Widget. Once the app block is added, you may drag & drop it to your desired position.
